"Some say The World" By: Susan Perabo Pages read : 187 - 202
1. Favorite Quote : " The thing about fire is this: it is yours for one glorious moment. You bear it, you raise it." (pg.191)
I like this quote because, it talks about how fire is yours at one point in time. You make it. However big or small you want it, then that's what you will get. Also, fire can be a pretty thing, but on the other hand, it is a really dangerous thing.
2. Summary:
This short story, is basically about a teenage pyromaniac girl, zonked on Xanax, lives with her mother who is recently remarried to a guy. But her mother continues a weekly tryst with the teenager;s father. At the age 11, she discovers that fire is like blood, water, shelter, and that once a fire grows out of control, she must relinquish the illusion of her own power over it. She opts for a life where the goal is to create chaos and destruction.
3. How do you feel about the book?
In my opinion, i think this is a good short story. I like the way it shows a struggle of a teenage girl who has a illness called pyromania. I never heard of this sickness until this short story. It made me understand more about what it does to people and how much damange it can cost. I dont like the fact that her mom is married, but is also playing around with her father.
4. Connections:
There are really no connections that i can connect to in this story. But i think overall, it is a great short story, and it can open many peoples' eyes in the of how people are born with sicknesses and struggles they face. Although it isn't based on a true story, there may people out there in the world just like the teenage girl.
5. Questions:
Are people born with these sicknesses?
What made Susan Perabo make a short story about pyromania?
What inspires her to write stories?
I wonder if there are people in this world that suffer from this sickness?
I seem to be drawn to the quote you have chosen as well. Though I believe the quote would be stronger if added a little of the text that comes after, I can still say it a powerful quote with much meaning. But as the quote being the way it is, I seem to interpret it differently. I Believe the quote is simply stating the fire, like many other things can be yours, and of course it can be something beautiful and orgasmic to look at but within the next few seconds, that same fire that has amazed you, can quickly and brutally burn you. That to me is the powerful message that it sends.
I'm also curious to see some of the answer to the questions you have posted. These questions can be explored to an in-depth level.

"Drinking Coffee Elsewhere" By: ZZ Packer
1. Favorite Quote" "When I was a child, I played by myself in a corner of the schoolyard." (pg.297)
I like this quote, because it reminds me when i was younger, and i used to play in the schoolyard with my friends. And when they weren't there, i used to play by myself.
2. Summary:
This short story is about a girl named Dina who is from Baltimore and she gets in to Yale university. She has lost her mother to kidney failure. When she gets into Yale, she doesn't know who she is or what she wants to do. It seems as if she is gay but she is scared to show it. She likes this girl named, Heidi. Her and Heidi do a lot of things together. By the time you know it Dina has fallen in love with Heidi and she cant live without Heidi.
3.How do you feel about the book?
Its an okay book, but it doesn't fit my interest. I really didn't like it, but its maybe because i didn't understand it thoroughly enough.
4. Connections:
There are really no connections that i have made with this book. Once again i didn't like this short story.
